What should
you expect?

We are often asked some questions about our process, that’s why we decided to describe it and our way of working, so you can get to know us better before reaching out. However if you don't like to read, or don't have much time we have a brief TLDR version just for you (we highly encourage you to read the whole thing though):

We start with diagnosing the problem and researching the users and market; it enables us to understand your business, build strategy, and project scope. Then we head into wireframes, ideally test it with users, followed by visual & motion design, and a styleguide or design system. Finally, the design is handed to developers, either working here in Pragma or to an external partner. After the release, we can continuously improve your product even further based on the analytical data.

Approach

Good, you’re still reading. Let’s start with saying that we treat all of our clients as partners, and we genuinely care about the human side of the business. We are sure we don't need to convince you that it's much more enjoyable to work on a project in a friendly company. That said, we start by getting to know our clients as well as their product. We're not really into giving rushed advices before understanding the complexities of your business and the connection you want to build with your clients.

We want to point out from the very beginning that we collaborate on a project together. Mixing your knowledge on the business side and our experience in building products is the only way to get the best results. Design is not a solution; it's a process.

Diagnosis

Our process is truly to understand what it is what you want, what motivates you, what inspires you, so we can come back to you with the solution that matters to you. The only way we know how to do this is to ask you a lot of questions.

Diagnosis starts with the Kick-off meeting. We define the objective of co-operation and ask about hopes and fears – both personal and organizational such as technological debt or unclear priorities. To be sure the project is desirable for the users, we talk directly with end-customers to understand their problems. We also review the competition landscape and industry standards. It helps to differentiate your brand from many others, but it also gives us priceless insight of the industry itself.

All of the mentioned activities result in Discovery & Research Report being the project’s foundation.

Strategy & Concepts

Once we paved the way and immersed in your business, it's time to create the Strategy for the project. It's probably the most crucial part, basically defining what we're going to build and how. The game plan will consist of project scope and a delivery plan.

We highly advise testing the plan by creating concepts. By concepts, we mean generating as many rough design sketches as possible, followed by sticking with one or two and finally testing it with the end-customer. Creating those sketches not only enables us to come up with unique solutions but also more importantly, by checking it with real people, it minimizes the risk of applying wrong medicine to customer's pains.

Depending on the type of product, it might be an interactive prototype of the app or homepage of a website.

UX Design

At this point, we are clear on the feature set. User Experience Design brings your idea to life for customers. The usual suspects in this phase are Information Architecture, Wireframes, and Interactive Prototypes. But remember those are just tools; what matters is that customers find it clear to use the product. That's why we recommend testing particular milestones with users.

We use different tools, but since the collaboration aspect plays a big role for us, our main design tool is Figma. The tool is straightforward for both designers and clients. You will have access to our work files. It's like having a webcam in a painter's art studio. Yes, the transparency.

In Figma, we build products in a way that enables you always to be able to see the big picture of the project and track the progress.

The final results were above and beyond what we expected. We felt like one team working toward the same goal. Their mantra to challenge everything saved us a lot of time, resources, and helped to change our way of thinking.

Visual Design

One of the vital attributes of UX is a delight. We're not satisfied with just making usable products, it's a baseline for us. We want to evoke emotions and make the experience memorable. And you know what helps with that? Great visuals, motion design, and carefully crafted copywriting! That's why one of our core competencies is Visual Design. While working on the user interface, we make sure that you can effortlessly expand your project without our help keeping the consistency in place by creating a styleguide or a design system - the choice is dependant on the project specifics and the client's needs.

Shipping the project

Yes, finally, the mockups are ready to hand it off to our developers. Remember Figma? Transferring project to dev team is as easy as... giving them access to work files because Figma not only works as a design tool but also has all the features of other popular tools like Zepplin and InVision. Combined. That's why we love it so much.

Even though design is our core competence, we treat development very seriously. Even the finest, well-tested project won't bring any value if it's poorly shipped to the users. That's the very reason we have an inhouse dev team that can handle usual business and create beautiful interactive websites. Still, for big, enterprise-sized projects, we instead work with technology partners handing-off the development, but still making sure the quality is on point.

Constant Improvement

Our job is hardly ever done after we ship the product. We take care of our partners. That’s why in particular projects it’s recommended to have ongoing analytics and optimization checkup using tools like Google Analytics or HotJar. It guarantees a constant improvement of usability and conversion as we work with real data and can test on actual customers using your product.
